About iHEAL

What is iHEAL?

Flexible. Woman-led. Built around her life.

The Intervention for Health Enhancement and Living (iHEAL) is an evidence-based, health promotion program, designed to address the many needs and concerns of women who are, or have, experienced violence from an intimate partner (i.e. a current or former spouse, dating or sexual partner of any gender).

iHEAL supports women to navigate the complex and ongoing impacts from violence on their health, well-being, safety and more.

How the program works

Not a checklist.
Not a crisis intervention.
Not one-size-fits-all.

iHEAL is a voluntary community-based program that is delivered by specially trained Registered Nurses

  • Has a unique focus on promoting women's long-term health and well-being.
  • Personalized support every 1-2 weeks over about 6-7 months in a safe comfortable space.
  • Flexible, no cost, easy to access.
  • Builds confidence, skills, resources and connections that carry women into the future.
  • Works with other services to provide essential wrap around support.

A tailored woman-led approach

Lasting change starts with what matters to her

iHEAL doesn't tell women what to do

At the core of iHEAL is a simple principle: women are the experts in their own lives.

Each women experiences violence differently, shaped by many factors including:

  • Experiences of stigma or discrimination
  • Economic resources and stability
  • Access to support systems
  • Parenting responsibilities
  • Past and ongoing experiences of violence

iHEAL nurses help each woman identify her priorities and build strategies that reflect her goals and strengths, and fit with her situation.

Violence affects all aspects of women's lives

iHEAL provides broad support focused on:

  • Managing health conditions that interfere with life
  • Strengthening energy and well-being
  • Improving safety for self and others
  • Expanding support and connections
  • Building satisfying relationships
  • Accessing and building basic resources
  • Reclaiming power, control, and hope for the future

You can play a role in strengthening the response to IPV.

With the right support, women can heal and move forward on their own terms!
